An hour combined class of funky Jazz/hip hop (1/2 hour) and vocals (1/2 hour). The class teaches the basics of dance- turning, pointing, balance etc to funky music eg- Bindi, The chipmunks, Hannah Montanna, and the basics of vocals- scales, breathing, mic technique etc.

An hour class teaching the vocal principles of breathing, scales, harmony work, mic technique and movement for stage. Vocalists work on 3-4 part harmonies as a group, as well as developing their solo performances. Preparation for Fusion performances and auditions take place in this class. Students study different rhythms, harmony principles and stylistic interpretation. Critiquing performances and learning stage craft and performance etiquette is an important part of turning out well-balanced performers.

Fusion offers 30min private lessons to its vocal students. By Senior level it is compulsory for all students undertake a private lesson in conjunction with their class to ensure proper vocal development. Private vocal students work on developing their own voice, and work with the Fusion vocal syllabus covering breathing, scales, anatomy and physiology and music theory. Individual preparation for auditions and performances also allow students to be well-prepared and confident with their singing.

Want to get fit in a fun, funky and booty shaking class? Then the Fusion Hip Hop/Zumba/Jamaican Dance Hall class is for you! From beginner to advanced, its a great way to “embrace your inner goddess”! Taught by the talented Ishtar Morosi, the Fusion Adult Class will keep you entertained more than a boring repetitive Gym class could ever do!

Fusion offers expert tuition in this popular style! Taught by Newcastle Knights Cheerleader and World Championship Aerobics representative Melanie Fagg, the class teaches the fundamentals of Pom Pom work, lifts, chants and cheer choreography.

With our own special stamp though! For many years, Tap in Newcastle was dated, and all about sequins, a smile and exams. Fusion saw the need to give students the fundamentals in tap in a contemporary setting. Foot Percussion teaches tap in a fresh, funky and edgy way- using drum beats, different tapping surfaces such as corrugated iron etc and industrial, hip hop and funk music. The boys have all the fun in Tap Dogs! We are bringing it to Fusion!

Ultimate Fusion is a class designed to open up our dancers to a variety of different dance styles, covering a new style each term. Styles planned for 2010 include Cheerleading, Ballet, musical theatre (Junior level) and Bollywood, Latin, and Zumba (Senior levels)

Taught by the talented Ishtar Morosi, who majored in Modern Contemporary Dance at WAPA, modern contemporary is a fusion of ballet and jazz with emphasis on grace and beauty. This is a perfect balance to the frenetic pace of funk and hip hop, and allows dancers to keep up their classically slanted technique which is of use at Dance auditions in professional situations.

The Boys hip hop class is to cater to boys wanting to learn hip hop, krumping, popping and locking in an all-male environment. The boys learn routines and some basic freestyle breaking moves as well. A great way to get boys involved in Dance!

The breaking class combines freestyle breaking moves and choreography. The students learn spins, flips and power break dancing moves appropriate to their age and level of strength in a safe, friendly environment.

An hour class offered as an add-on to funk and jazz (eg- not to be taken in isolation) this class teaches the ever-popular hip hop dance style seen on music videos etc. This dance style originated on the streets and has been featured in such movies such as Step Up and Stomp the Yard. Fusion has a very strong Hip Hop department, and this year will introduce guest teachers to our Seniors to cover different styles of Hip Hop.

An hour class focussing on jazz technique such as turns, kicks, flexibility and strength. The jazz and funk class forms the basis for our dance programmes with 20 mins technique work and 40 mins choreography. The class work on routines for the numerous performances Fusion undertake every year. Within the Jazz and Funk genres, a wide range of music is covered, all with its own flavours- popular music (appropriate to the age group) such as Lady Gaga, Pussycat Dolls, Miley Cyrus, etc and branching into Musical theatre with Camp Rock, Chicago, etc is used to provide our students with a well-rounded technique . The Jazz/Funk class is the entry level (compulsory) class at Fusion (with the exception of the breaking and Boys Hip Hop Class which may be taken in isolation). Students can add a variety of other classes to their Dance timetables.
